Head Start ideas needed
As a mom of a Kootenai Head Start student, I am trying to find ways to get the word out about his school and what they do. They offer so much for low income and special needs children in social, cognitive, and educational development. The difference I have personally seen in these children from early in the school year, to now is very impressive. The school is a fully federal funded program and the families are not asked to pay for anything, only asked to help the school with their time, like coming to class, playing with the children, having breakfast or lunch with the class, etc. In the beginning of the school year, parents are required to vote and dictate exactly where and on what the schools funds will be spent. The schools funds are, of course, very limited. At this point, the school provides food during the monthly parent meetings, called family socials, cooked by the school chef. For most families, this is a special treat because they are low income. After this month, however, the school will be out of money to cover the family social meals. There are plenty of businesses that I am certain would help by sponsoring these meals for the family socials, but there is a problem. The rules and regulations do not allow the staff or families to outright ask for help. They may talk to people about the program, the benefits they offer these children, and what a difference the program makes in the community, but they must wait till assistance is offered before talking about what the school may need. So, if any of you out there have ideas, tips, or possibly more (not that I am asking for anything), please contact me! I would greatly appreciate any advice offered!

Those are great ideas, but unfortunately they are not within the “guidelines”. Also, Head Start families are low income, so providing the items we would need would put a financial burden on the families. Thank you so much for your time and suggestions. They are greatly appreciated!!

Nevermind momma of 5. lol. I re read your blog. So lets get the word out about head start and let our surrounding business owners know that there is a need to be filled, and hopefully someone will donate.
